A note about Allergies |
||
|
At Doodledoos we are being asked more and more "is the Labradoodle suitable for allergy sufferers?"
The answer is: "very often, yes!"
However, there are many different allergies and sometimes people find that they are allergic to not only dog hair, but also dog saliva and urine which is a problem if you want to have a puppy.
The Labradoodle is not a hypo-allergenic dog. The Australian Labradoodle (ASD or Multi Gen) usually has a coat that is called 'fleece' which means that it will not shed. This is very often the type of coat that will suit people with allergies that are triggered by animal hair. Some Labradoodles have a wool coat which is much thicker and more springy (see Sunnie below) which should also be non shedding. There are no guarantees however and we therefore recommend that if you have allergies and are unsure as to what triggers a reaction, that you see a specialist before investing your time, money and love on a new puppy. People with very mild allergies who already have dogs at home will be more confident that a low-shedding Labradoodle such as a good quality 50 50 will suit them. 50 50 Labradoodles have one quarter Labrador heritage, so there will always be an element of shedding, but we have consistently found that approx 80% of our 50 50 Labradoodles have superb quality fleece coats that are low shedding (see Ginger - right).
Sunnie (above) is a WOOL coated MULTI GEN Australian Labradoodle. She produces stunning puppies with non shedding thick fleece coats. The Wool coat infusion causes the fleece coated puppies to be thick and luxurious. See Aslan (son of Sunnie and Aducci) below.

F1 Hair Coat
Milo is an F1 Labradoodle and has a hair coat that does shed naturally. Some F1 and 50 50 Labradoodles shed very little, but this is still an important factor where allergies are concerned.
50 50 Hair Coat
Betty is a 50 50 Labradoodle with a hair coat. She has the very sought after 'shaggy' look with natural blond highlites! Her owner does not need to have her clipped, just a gentle brush on a regular basis.
50 50 Low Shedding Fleece
Doodledoos Ginger is a 50 50 Labradoodle with a soft thick wavy FLEECE coat that hardly sheds at all. She goes to a professional groomer every 10 weeks for a scissor trim to keep her coat in good shape.
ASD Wavy Fleece
This is Manorborn Tonto - an ASD (Australian Service Dog) Labradoodle with a beautiful WAVY FLEECE coat that DOES NOT SHED. He too goes to the Groomer every 10 weeks to keep his coat looking tip top. (Photo courtesy of Manorborn).
ASD Spiral Fleece
Doodledoos Preston is an ASD Labradoodle with a CURLY SPIRAL FLEECE coat that DOES NOT SHED. The spiral fleece falls in ringlets if left to grow longer and needs regular grooming as well as a scissor cut every 10-12 weeks at the Groomers.
